10 of the best alternative homeware stores

There is a real gap in the market when it comes to sourcing homeware if you like something a little darker than the average person, or you don't want your home to be filled with nothing but three shades of grey and the same B&M purchases as every other home account on Instagram. I've done some digging and here are 10 options to give your home the emo makeover it deserves. If you see something that grabs your heart, click on the store name in the heading to get right to shopping!

Starting with a site most of us have likely shopped on or at least heard of before. Etsy is by nature a great place to shop for personalised or one of a kind anything, and that includes home decor. Anything from basic prints right up to large home furnishings you will find your style here. Many merchants offer custom pieces and commissions meaning if you can dream it, you can buy it.

IWOOT or I Want One Of Those is not a dedicated alternative store so not every item would look right at home in a witches bedroom, but if you have a look around you can find some gems here. I have personally shopped here before and can vouch that the customer service is fantastic. I had an order not turn up and whilst a certain courier were of no help (shock) IWOOT immediately resent my order and it soon arrived. The quality was great and you will often see great deals or discount codes, there is even a spot on the website dedicated to grabbing yourself a deal.

Now if you are looking for something you won't see in anyone else's home and you have a bit more spare cash then Courthouse Interiors is for you. Personally I could fill my home with almost everything they have to offer so I've included multiple pictures for this selection. You have the added bonus of being able to spread the cost with Klarna should you so wish. Founded in 2006 Courthouse Interiors is another UK based business. It is family run and based in a Grade II listed building in Wiveliscombe in Somerset. The passion for the finer things in life rings true throughout every piece stocked here and is the perfect place to add a touch of something special.

Another gothic clothing brand with the bonus of a homeware section. Established in 1996 Attitude Clothing boasts being the "UK's original online retailer of Men's and Women's alternative clothing, footwear, jewellery and accessories". Home to over 100 different brands there is sure to be something to suit everyone here. Free delivery on orders over £50 and 10% discount with Student beans can sweeten the deal. They also offer a price promise if you find one of their products cheaper somewhere else online within 48hours of ordering!

Rockett St George was founded in 2007 with the hopes of providing unique, authentic and quirky pieces. I would describe this store as offering you something out of the ordinary but without compromising on any of the class. For those of you like me who also have a conscience when it comes to selecting companies who have eco-friendly values Rockett St George offer products classed as both eco and vegan friendly, with full details under the sustainability section of their website.

If you prefer something brighter than your classic gothic finds IAMFY is the perfect place to go. Some pieces here have a vintage feel to them for those of us who feel we were born after our time. I get distinct art deco vibes from a lot of the furniture pieces. IAMFY stocks an impressively large number of brands in their online store giving you a range of products you could get lost in for hours. You can even find pages of inspo on their website to help get those home styling juices flowing.

Angel clothing gives me such great goth vibes. Whilst this site primarily sells you a range of alternative, gothic and steampunk clothing and accessories, the homeware section is one to behold. Prices are reasonable and you can find some really unique pieces that I haven't seen on other alternative homeware sites. Store visits are currently by appointment only but online ordering is available 24/7, for when you just need to purchase another skull ornament during your 2am scroll. Based in Portsmouth here in the UK so you can be sure you are supporting a local business too!

This one can take some searching to find what you're looking for, but if you don't mind a longer shipping time you can grab some great home styling pieces for a very small price. This is a great option if you have time to spend browsing and a low budget, however if you have an imagine in your mind of exactly what you're after this probably isn't the best route. Free shipping is standard on orders over £35 and you could get yourself quite a haul for this price!

When the tag line is "Shut up, Beige!" You know you've found a company who like something a bit more exciting than magnolia walls. Launched in 2009 originally as a store who stocked only red items (Yes, I'm serious) their mission is to get a bit of colour into all our homes. There are some really interesting options here and with the focus being on home decor the range is huge!

10.ROOV

Another seemingly normal home store with some cracking finds if you bother to look. ROOV is a favourite among Instagram home accounts and it's easy to see why, the prices are fantastic with the crystal ball below going for a tiny price of £6.99!* (Yes I may have just put it in my basket, don't judge.) I challenge you to find me someone who doesn't love feeling like they got a great deal.

Finding alternative homeware isn't always easy. Hopefully I have done a lot of the leg work for you and now your valuable shopping time can be spent grabbing home decor pieces that will make you smile every time you look at them instead of searching for the stores.
